Eddie.

May have been the 69/70 season. For some reason the old man decided on the South Bank that night instead of our regular place along the fence that seperated the West side and North bank.Between 64 and 73 we only missed 4 home games and the only other time we left the North bank wss thr dsy the chicken run reopened after being done up. FA cup v Bristol City. 3-2 i think.

And yes i'm bored.

My MATES Dad's testimonial was a good one v an ISRAEL XI !!!

Something of an unusual occasion at Upton Park—in more ways than one ! The Paul Heffer Testimonial Match drew an attendance of 7,465, but the security precautions were far in excess of those usual for our home games. The visiting team was the Israel National XI, and because of the international situation they had personal guards in addition to heavy protection from the Metropolitan Police. Hindsight after subsequent events made these actions very understandable.

The Israelis made a most generous gesture by paying their entire expenses involved throughout the visit to England, and Paul—who had retired from soccer through injury - benefited accordingly. The light-blue-shirted opposition scored twice through Zvi Farkash in the opening 13 minutes, but the Hammers got a grip on the game after that and eventually won 3-2; Kevin Lock (42 mins), Bertie Lutton (50) and "Pop" Robson (80) scored for us. Our administrative staff took around three days supervising the security measures, and although we were pleased to welcome the Israeli party it was a distinct relief when they eventually departed in safety !

That would have had to be the very very early 70's, as Martin Peters left WHU in March 1970.
